Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) is a Nintendo Switch exclusive title that generated significant cultural and commercial impact. However, within the digital piracy and emulation communities, the terms "NSP" (Nintendo Submission Package) and "XCI" (Cartridge Information) are used to denote pirated copies of the game. This paper examines the technical distinctions between NSP and XCI formats, the reasons behind the demand for an "exclusive" copy of a non-exclusive file (the base game), and the legal and ethical ramifications for Nintendo and the consumer base. The paper concludes that while emulation serves a preservation function, the distribution of NSP/XCI files directly undermines the commercial exclusivity that defines Nintendo’s business model.
