When launched via Steam, the Steam client acts as a wrapper. Steam initiates the game, which then sends a call to the EA launcher to verify ownership and launch the actual game process. If the EA App is installed but not correctly registered as the handler for origin:// URI schemes, the handshake fails. battlefield 4 origin is not installed error
