Away from the gendered cues of clothing—the cuts of shirts, the fits of pants—the naked body can be read with less instant assumption. "When you take away clothes, you take away a lot of the cultural shorthand for gender," says Devon. "People have to see you, not your outfit. It’s strangely validating."
