Legally, it is a gray area. Adobe PageMaker is – software whose copyright holder no longer sells or supports it. However, Adobe has never officially released PageMaker into the public domain.

Despite its age, many small print shops and local newspapers still use PageMaker because they have thousands of legacy files ( .pmd and .p65 ) that modern software struggles to open correctly.
