For years, we have been fed a steady diet of what it means to be a successful, attractive, and respectable Black gay man. The aesthetic is often specific: gym-fit bodies, perfectly groomed beards, a certain brand of "masculinity" that feels more like a uniform than an identity, and a sexual desirability hierarchy that often mirrors the anti-Blackness we claim to oppose.
