For a battery still in a vehicle, attach the Black clamp to a heavy, unpainted metal part of the engine block or chassis—away from the battery and moving parts. If the battery is out of the vehicle, attach a 24-inch 6-gauge insulated cable to the negative post first, then connect the black clamp to that cable.
