Indonesia’s culture is inextricably linked to its rainforests. The rapid expansion of (critical for global EV batteries) has led to land conflicts. Indigenous Suku Anak Dalam (Kubu tribe) in Sumatra and Dayak communities in Kalimantan frequently report displacement. Indonesia is a country rich in cultural heritage, with over 300 ethnic groups and more than 700 languages spoken across the archipelago. However, the rapid modernization and globalization of Indonesian society have posed significant challenges to the preservation of traditional Indonesian arts. This paper explores the impact of modernization on traditional Indonesian arts, with a focus on the struggles faced by artists, communities, and cultural institutions in preserving and promoting Indonesia's rich cultural heritage. Through a case study of the traditional Indonesian dance form, Bedhaya, this paper argues that the preservation of traditional Indonesian arts requires a delicate balance between cultural preservation and modernization.
