Set in World War II-era Shanghai, during the Japanese occupation, the story follows Wong Chia Chi (played brilliantly by Tang Wei). She is a young, innocent university student who gets swept up in a radical patriotic movement. Their target? Mr. Yee (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), a ruthless, high-ranking intelligence official in the collaborationist government.
