This paper explores the strategic integration of survivor stories in public awareness campaigns, moving beyond the traditional "medical model" of health and safety communication. While awareness campaigns have historically relied on statistics and expert warnings to inform the public, the modern landscape favors emotional resonance. By analyzing campaigns related to domestic violence, cancer survival, and substance abuse recovery, this study argues that survivor narratives serve as a mechanism of "strategic empathy," effectively reducing stigma, increasing self-efficacy among at-risk populations, and driving legislative action. However, the paper also critiques the potential for "trauma commodification" and the ethical complexities of requiring survivors to relive trauma for public consumption.
