The film is set in 1979, during the early days of the Iranian Revolution. The CIA, led by Tony Stoltzfus (Ciarán Hinds), becomes aware of a plot by Iranian students to storm the American embassy in Tehran. When the embassy is overrun, six American diplomats manage to escape and find refuge at the Canadian ambassador's residence.
